MY STORY

My name is Kaitlyn Kokoska!

I’m a writer, editor, and public relations student. I won’t call you out on your comma splices when we chat (unless you pay me to), but they will definitely give me a headache.

In 2018, I graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelors degree in Writing, majoring in Creative Nonfiction (think memoir or biography) and a minor in Journalism and Professional Publishing. This basically means I’m a pro at writing in my diary, but also I write news stories, e-marketing content, and blog posts.

During my undergrad I worked for the Martlet, UVic’s Independent Student Newspaper, as a volunteer, staff writer, editorial assistant, and podcast host. Sometimes I did these things all at the same time. I wrote and edited CP-styled articles and put out stories for almost every beat—technology, arts, and culture have always been my favourite though.

After I graduated, I moved to Edmonton, Alta. to toughen up by enduring -30 C snow squalls (and to live with my partner). I worked as a barista, editorial assistant, an insurance broker, and now I’m back to school (#foreverstudent) in UVic’s Public Relations Diploma program.

In this CPRS recognized program, I am learning how to create long-lasting relationships with stakeholders, devise communication plans, and make your company more profitable through connection building.  While I go to school in this part-time program, I am on the hunt for a position in the PR field to flex the skills I’ve developed.
